Airport classes for student pilots

Student pilots often spend a lot of time around Class D and Class E airports, but they also need to understand how busier controlled airspace works. Class B and Class C

Class B surrounds the busiest airports. Class C usually surrounds busy regional airports with radar services and towered operations. These airports can have fast traffic, multiple runways, arrival streams, and more complex radio procedures.

Class D and Class E

Class D airports usually have an operating control tower, but less traffic than major airline airports. Class E airports can include non-towered fields with instrument procedures. For many students, these airports are where weather, runway selection, radio work, and traffic awareness start to feel real.

What to check before choosing an airport
